Cats wash themselves often, very often. And that is quite normal. Cats sleep 16 hours a day, eat every now and then and go for a walk. The rest of the time they wash themselves, the other cats in the house or their owners.
Cats should be able to scratch something every day, as this is part of their natural behaviour. It makes them happy and scratching is even good for their health.
